The Sitting Disease Versus Healthy Wine Tasting Room Sales

Have you heard of the dreaded sitting disease? Apparently, many of the physical and mental ills of our modern world have come from being parked at a desk for eight hours a day, staring at screen. And then compounded by heading home (sitting in our cars) and staring at even more screens. While lounging on a couch or reclining in a Lay-Z-Boy.

One way to buck this trend--and be more productive and creative--is to work standing up. So standing trumps sitting always, right? Well, not in the case of wine tasting rooms. SVB on Wine has the details of a study of sales at stand-up tasting bars versus sit-down experiences. The conclusion? "The average wine purchase in in a tasting room that employs a private or formal tasting is more than double the purchase of that made in a standing tasting bar."

Of course, as the author of the post points out, this is all well and good but if you don't have the space, staffing, or financial resources to create a siting area for more private, intimate tastings, you're just going to have to make do with what you've got. And contemplate how you can raise the number of visitors to your standing room only tasting room by a whopping 260% to match the same sales rate.
