The Andrew Will 2009 Sorella represents yet another blend of Bordelais cepages from Champoux Vineyard, in this instance 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot. The Cabernet Sauvignon for this cuvee routinely tends toward a mix of blocks quite distinctive from whatever Cabernet Sauvignon goes into a given vintage of his vineyard-designated Champoux, explains Camarda. Bitter herbal concentrate, cedar, juniper berry, and cassis make for a metaphorically dark and brooding cast, with hints of vanilla, nutmeg, and chocolate complementing the sweetly-ripe but not superficially sweet dark berry elements on a texturally plush palate. As one would hope, there is a sense of energy as well as persistent primary juiciness to this bottling’s multifaceted finish. It should be worth following for a decade.
