Tyler Thomas started with Dierberg and Star Lane Vineyards in the Summer of 2013. His affinity with the Central Coast started early, with his first full-time harvest job, at Fiddlehead Cellars.
Grown in one of the coolest corners of California, this wine is made from marquis cuttings of historic Wente clones that were sourced from the most prestigious vineyards in all of California and planted atop a sandy loam mesa that overlooks the sweeping south bank of the Santa Maria River. The Chardonnay consistently delivers a soft, rich mouthfeel with vibrant acidity and amazing minerality - scents of pear giving way to sea shells, flavors of warm tree nuts evolving toward crisp nectarines. To preserve those qualities, the winemaker uses 400-liter demi-muids barrels, which broadly distributes the new oak influence and slows down oxidation, leading to a smoother, more finesse-focused white wine.
