NJ Bodegas Muga Rioja Reserva 2012

Straight-up, classic Rioja. A blend of 70% Tempranillo and 20% Garnacha, this mellow wine shows off equal parts red berry flavors, savory herbs and vanilla oak. For Muga's take on the modern style, try their Torre bottling, which features powerful dark fruit flavors and French oak notes. This wine was aged for 6 months in wooden vats, 2 years in new 60% French and 40% American oak barrels and at least 12 months in bottles. Racked 5 times and bottled unfiltered after being fined with egg whites. The vineyards are planted on a mix of clay-limestone, and clay with iron soils. This is the only winery left in Spain that uses only oak throughout the entire vinification process, which is very traditional and artesanal. They have their own cooperage and import the oak directly from the United States and France. Case Size 12
