Critics' Picks: NYT's Eric Asimov Re-evaluates Chateauneuf du Pape

Eric Asimov notes in his September 5, 2013 feature that Châteauneuf du Pape has alienated wine drinkers (like himself) who prefer wines with "less opulence and sweetness." He used be fan of the region's wines, but a combination of climate and stylistic preferences over time have led it in the direction of "big, lush and fruity." However, despite his reservations about Châteauneuf, he is an advocate for the 2010 vintage. His favorites had "herbal touches" and "deep, earthy, licorice-like flavors". He ends with article with the resounding endorsement, "it’s hard for me to imagine anybody who wouldn’t like these wines." Below is a selection of the wines he recommends.
