How Much More Wine Do The French Drink Than Americans Per Week?

Rejoice Americans! The United States, as Reuters reports, has become the planet's number one wine market. Our 29.1 million hectoliters of fermented grape juice purchased in 2013 trumps France's figure by one million hectoliters.

France's per capita has plunged by a surprising 20 percent in just a short period of time, from 2002 to 2011.

But the number three nation when it comes to producing wine still has a massive lead regarding per-capita consumption. Residents of France on average put away 1.2 bottles of wine a week, which is six times (!) more than what the typical American does.

Is a wine culture in the United States on the upswing? And is France's in danger?
