Champagne: Goodby Zero Dosage, Hello Low Cal?

I've always been a fan of the racy zero-dosage Champagnes with no extra added sugar. Let me clarify: I've liked them because of their flavor. But now it seems they are being positioned and branded to appeal to the calorie-counting set. Hence The Drinks Business reporting on the forthcoming debut "Skinny Rosé" created by Champagne Tribaut. If pink bubbles aren't your thing, fear not, as Alexandre Penet Brut Nature Cuvée Grand Cru aka "Skinny Champagne" (trademarked, and it does say "Skinny Champagne" on the front label) is already available.

The rosé was created at the behest of Finest Fizz Founder Howard Abernethy. His company, which imports and sells Champagne online, speculates that the "skinny" Champagne has 40 calories less per glass than a typical Brut Champagne. Abernethy's target audience? He explained, “Rosé is very female friendly and I know it’s going to be the ladies, hopefully in all shapes and sizes, who will want Skinny Rosé."
