In Bordeaux, A Lafite to the Finish With Lafitte

A decade-long legal battle has been warring in Bordeaux between legendary First Growth Château Lafite Rothschild ($2,000/bottle for top vintages) and Château Lafitte, an unclassified wine that will only set you back $25. The Wine Spectator details the courtroom machinations, and humorously opines, "It's a little like if Sony were to take on Sonny's Handmade Electronic Doohickeys...." It should be noted that Château Lafitte has been around in name since the time of Raymond Lafitte's purchase of the property over 250 years ago.

The dispute has now expanded to another continent, where the right to use the name is being argued over in the lucrative Chinese market.
