The 8.2 Million Dollar Bottle of Barefoot Chardonnay

You've heard of rare Burgundy and Bordeaux being sold at auction for astonishing amounts, but one bottle of humble Barefoot Chardonnay may end up costing Albertsons a whole lot more than the most precious French treasures ever fetch. An Oregon woman is suing the grocery store chain because her 1.5 liter bottle of Barefoot Chardonnay tore through the single plastic bag it was in, breaking on her right food and ankle.

The Oregonian reports that the Jewel Strite did not notice an Albertsons employee single-bagging the wine. The 8.2 million dollar figure covers "$74,000 in medical costs, $2.5 million for future medical expenses, $276,000 for 'home maintenance expenses,' more than $86,000 for transportation expenses, $1.08 million for her decreased earning capacity and $4.2 million for her pain and suffering."
