WineChat rustled up some notable Rhone Rangers for a Twitter tasting featuring a quintet of California wines, showcasing how Rhone grapes can thrive in the Golden State on their own and in a blend. I was able to take part in the festivities and a recap of some of the most illuminating tweets follows. And, in the interests of modesty and promoting non-egomanical behavior, I am keeping my contributions to the conversation to a minimum. (Note: All wines were sent to me as samples.)

@martindredmond Mourvedre is very difficult to get right. Crop yields need to be low = $$$ @RhoneRangers #winechat #RRSFBAY

@martindredmond Re:Mourvedre, it's hard to grow... ripens late, & hard to pronounce. But great rewards for perseverance! #winechat #RRSFBAY

@IsaacJamesBaker as you know 100% GB is hard to find in the Rhone, so only had a few. #RRSFBAY #Winechat

@norcalwine Should have said something but LCB Reserve best served at room temp & decanted. #sorry #winechat #RRSFBAY
— Randall Grahm (@RandallGrahm) April 3, 2014
@IsaacJamesBaker The LCB Réserve actually does not see wood, but instead is anaerobically aged in 5 gal. glass carboys #winechat #RRSFBAY

@vinogger Syrah can be a bully, so a little goes a long way. But it's a great way of cutting perceived sweetness. #winechat #rrsfbay
— Jason Haas (@jasonchaas) April 3, 2014
@Hawk_Wakawaka @jamesonfink At @Beaucastel they recommend serving Rhone whites and reds at same (cellar) temp. #winechat #rrsfbay
— Jason Haas (@jasonchaas) April 3, 2014
@norcalwine That's what makes it a great place to grow Syrah! #winechat #RRSFBAY
